Today (March 26, 2025) marks my six-year anniversary with the Scratch Foundation and just a few months shy of two years as a Learning Resource Designer. Being a small but mighty team means I’ve had lots of opportunities to create educational and fun materials to help others learn about and engage with Scratch and creative learning in a variety of formats.
Over the years, I’ve had the pleasure of working on the Moderation team and the Community Engagement team (which gave me a lot of helpful insight into our learners), as well as collaborating with folks from Product, Engineering, HR, and Impact on special projects. And through workshops, special projects, conferences, the Scratch Education Collaborative, and ScratchEd Meetups, I’ve have the opportunity to make wonderful connections with so many inspiring individuals doing fun and creative work!
By my count, in the almost two years I’ve served as the Scratch Learning Resource Designer, I have:
- made 88 videos (many of them on our ScratchTeam YouTube channel, including one livestream, as well as videos for the Achievery)
- created 102 original written resources (including coding cards, workshop slide decks, guides, posters, reflection sheets, Scratch Day materials, Achievery units, and more) and remixed 5 more major resources that needed to be overhauled
- created 8 lesson plans and facilitator guides (with 4 more currently in progress)
- co-hosted Scratch’s 2024 conference (with another coming up this July) and three Scratch in Practice (SiP) sessions (another of which I’ll be co-hosting in May), as well as co-hosting a handful of Scratch Education Collaborative (SEC) workshops
- presented in Vietnam, at ISTE, at the Deeper Learning Summit, for a Connected Nations webinar, and at three ScratchEd Meetup (SEM) sessions, and I will be presenting at OCSTA’s conference coming up in April
And over these six years, I have also shared 290 projects on my various accounts (including some new starter projects shared on the ScratchTeam account).
I feel so privileged that every day I’m able to find a way to share my love of education and creative tinkering. And I’m so grateful for everyone who’s been checking out and supporting my work. (This includes you, who is reading this post!) I have so much more planned, and just like our Scratchers, I’m forever learning new things, trying new things, and embracing a growth mindset. Scratch on!
